Conquering Cracked Heels: My Journey to Soft, Healthy Feet

Image from Stockcake:

I have an ongoing battle with cracked heels.  In my journey I have discovered a few recipes that I am going to share with you.  This is one of the recipes I discovered.  I got it from here:  https://domesticgeekgirl.com/uncategorized/diy-peppermint-tea-leaf-foot-scrub/

DIY Cracked Heel Foot Scrub Recipe

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 cup sea salt
  • 15-20 drops spearmint essential oil
  • 4 peppermint tea bags

Instructions:

  1. In a clean glass container (ideal for products applied to the skin), add the sea salt.
  2. Pour the olive oil and the loose tea leaves over the salt and mix thoroughly.
  3. Store away from sunlight and heat; it will last up to six months. Don’t worry about the salt dissolving—the oil and salt won’t mix, but ensure the oil doesn’t go rancid by using high-quality oil for a longer shelf life.

How to Use the Scrub:

When you're ready to pamper your feet, take a quarter-sized amount of the scrub in your palm. Gently massage it into your heels, paying extra attention to calloused areas in a circular motion. Apply firm pressure, but be careful not to irritate your skin. While soaking in the tub, I like to keep my feet out of the water for a bit to allow the oils to penetrate before rinsing. There's something wonderfully indulgent about seeing the salt and peppermint leaves on your feet in a warm bath!

This foot scrub not only feels like a treat, but it’s also incredibly effective for combating cracked heels.

Why It Works:

  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Rich in linoleic and oleic acids, as well as polyphenols, this oil hydrates and smooths the skin while combating free radicals and encouraging new cell growth.

  • Sea Salt: Acts as a natural exfoliant, sloughing away dead skin cells and promoting circulation. It also has antiseptic properties that help reduce inflammation and bacteria on the skin.

  • Spearmint Essential Oil: With its soothing effects, spearmint offers cooling relief without the intense menthol sensation of peppermint, making it ideal for foot care.

  • Peppermint Tea Leaf: Known for its pain-relieving properties, peppermint is antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral. When applied topically, it relaxes the nerves and muscles, leaving a delightful tingling sensation.

With this foot scrub, I’m well on my way to maintaining healthy, happy feet. Here’s to smooth sailing ahead in our journey toward wellness!
